Middle East Green Initiative and IUCN Sign MoU to Strengthen Environmental Cooperation

The Middle East Green Initiative and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation on biodiversity conservation, ecosystem and degraded land restoration, and nature-based solutions, alongside knowledge exchange, capacity building, and environmental awareness.

Today, Monday, July 13, 2026, in Riyadh, His Excellency Eng. Ibrahim Alturki, Secretary-General of the Middle East Green Initiative, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with His Excellency Dr. Hany El Shaer, Regional Director of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Regional Office for West Asia.

This memorandum aims to enhance cooperation in the fields of biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and climate change mitigation through the development of natural vegetation cover and sustainable agriculture to restore degraded lands by relying on nature-based solutions, preserving ecosystems, and supporting and engaging the region's communities in protection and development efforts.

The MoU also outlines the areas and mechanisms of cooperation for developing and implementing joint initiatives, promoting knowledge exchange, capacity building, and environmental awareness, in support of regional efforts within the scope of work of both entities.
